How X stores videos
When someone uploads a video, X re-encodes it into several sizes so it plays smoothly on slow and fast connections. For a typical landscape video, the ladder looks like this:

Vertical videos have the same steps turned sideways (for example 720×1280). Download HD gives you the top step, and Download gives you a mid-size one that’s easier to forward. Nothing is upscaled: a video uploaded in 720p stays 720p.
Download a video from X, step by step
On a phone
- In the X app, tap the Share icon under the post (the arrow or the box with an arrow).
- Tap Copy link.
- Open VidMate in your browser and paste the link above.

Save your own posts, news clips you want to keep for reference, or videos the poster lets you use. If you share a downloaded clip, credit the account it came from; reposting it as your own breaks X’s rules.
